A spoonful of sugar…

For anyone that has turned their eating habits around and have really looked at what they were eating, they will understand what I am talking about and why this rings true!

I love how fascinating food can be and how if people really researched what they are eating and how it’s effecting them they would be highly surprised!

There are so many diets out there to offer support to people who are suffering things from migraines to MS, to Autism to cancer…. There is so much you can do to support whatever your body is going through with just choosing the right nutrition!

Take a look at your diet today or why not see/research what you can do to help yourself by a little diet change!

And just to clarify…. I don’t assume that food and nutrition can cure everything, but if it can help and give your body the boost and support it needs to get you through, why wouldn’t you try it?

A blogging sin…..

When i started Blogging a good friend gave me a few tips on how to run a good blog.
The usual 1. Make it interesting. 2. Try to stick to a theme 3. Don’t use it to let off steam and so on.
I have, if i may say so myself, managed to maintain the rules above but today i may have to break 2 of them!

Don’t worry, i will try not to break number 1’s rule and maybe i can link my blog to number 2 still but ………number 3 is way put the window!
Today has been one of those days that started with idiots and ended with frustrating morons. I did, i’m pleased to report have a nice break in the middle from fools by spending the day with family in Zurich, so it wasn’t all bad!
I wont bore you all with the details but i will say its been a mixture of people not being particularly helpful, rude, having little faith in my abilities and just rubbing me up the wrong way.
I think i have a level of tolerance for most people, i do my best to be polite, patient, make excuses for their behaviour, but sometimes, just sometimes it would be nice to let the guard down and tell people to use that greyish, cauliflowery like organ in their head….and think about how the could stop being such fools.

It’s been enough to make anyone want to reach for the chocolate or some other sugary treat to replace some the energy you have wasted feeling bothered by these ‘fool of a took’ type folk!
Although i have managed to restrain from reaching from the sugar, although i wasn’t so successful in resisting in a well deserved ( maybe more ‘needed’) glass of wine to end the evening!
So here is what i am going to do, i’ll share some amusing quotations i have found to help relieve my stress! Good old google images can surely cheer up anyone when they need it most.
So if you have also had one of these days, or maybe you are someone who has already been through this and can relate, either way, enjoy!!!!

June already?

How did we manage to be into June already?!

I’m sure this year has just whizzed by! I don’t think that its helped much that the Sun has only just decided to make an appearance, we are suffering the worst weather Switzerland has seen in 30 years. So its not particularly inspiring to get outside and MOVE!

Its been on my agenda since spring/summer arrived i would start to walk the 25 minutes to my daughters playgroup, i tend to go there 3 times a week at least and its seemed a good way to add in exercise to my day.

Sadly, as i have mentioned, we have been blighted with pretty standard English weather….grey, rain, windy and just plain yuck!

Yes, ok i could purchase some fine wet weather gear, call me unadventurous but i cant say the idea inspires me much!

On a more positive note i did try out pole dancing the other week!!!
After sharing the news with some friends i was going to attend a class i was greeted with a mixture of reactions as I’m sure some of you can relate too!
“Sounds great” to “what on earth do you want to train in that for”

I tend to have a lot of international friends, so where as some understand that pole dancing can be a form of exercise nowadays and can be classed as a serious sport on par with gymnastics, others thought it was only something you learnt if you were considering a new line of work….

I recommend watching this link………..http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p2n3vRS9PyI …. ..i would like to point out this is OBVIOUSLY not me, and nor do i assume i will ever achieve this, i have never been the most flexible person!

I have also ordered my Hula Hoop ( borrowing one for the time being to get some practice in!), i was quite keen in adding this exercise into my daily routine, its fun and takes me back to my childhood. The one thing i forgot is, the last time i hula hooped was when i was rather small and i wasn’t just going to be able to pick it up and do my own ‘Slave to the Rhythm’ by Grace Jones rendition…. If you have no clue what i am talking about heres the link…. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vSa5EvWqB7g

It is amazing to think this woman is over 60… And can hula hoop 1000x better than i can. Practice makes perfect though i assume?

Why hula hooping though? Well, lets say i have read a number of times now that hula hooping for 5+ minutes in the morning and 5+ minutes can shave a couple of inches of your waist, and as thats the area i am trying to concentrate on at the moment i thought i should give it a spin! Hoho.

Hakuna Matata

I have to say that the one thing that has surprised the most about following this diet is the fact i feel so different.
Whether its confidence returning, my body appreciating a healthier diet or whatever, there is most definitely a change.

Now i’m no super woman/mum and i’m not stating here that I have discovered a love of housework or anything crazy ( id need a lot more than a new diet for that!), its just nice to feel different. Calmer.

Instead of having all the mad ups and down i used to suffer from, which i must admit was from my excessive chocolate binging….(i could easy get through a 200g bar of chocolate in one sitting, not counting all the rest of the crap i ate throughout the day) i just feel ‘normal’. My body was used to major sugar highs and lows. Sugar was my drug, and if you tried to take it away from me, well, you would at a minimum get the ‘death stare’ ….and if you managed to actually take it away, more fool you!!!! A sugar junkie!

I know i did a posting about the bad effects of artificial sweeteners in one of my previous blogs, and i stand by that whole heartily, but its important to look at the problem with refined sugar also.

Here are 16 side effects of having sugar!

. Suppress the immune system
• Contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties
• Produce a significant rise in triglycerides
• Reduce helpful high density cholesterol (HDLs) and raise harmful cholesterol (LDLs)
• Increase the risk of coronary heart disease and high blood pressure
• Increase fasting levels of blood glucose and contribute to diabetes
• Promote tooth decay
• Speed the aging process, causing wrinkles and grey hair
• Contribute to weight gain and obesity
• Cause toxemia during pregnancy
• Increase the risk of fatty liver disease
• Increase the water retention and bloating
• Cause headaches, including migraines
• Increase bacterial fermentation in the colon
• Increase risk of certain types of cancers including breast, colon and prostate
• Increase risk of Alzheimer’s disease

Sugar obviously appears naturally in a lot of produce, fruit is high in sugar content. Its not about cutting down on those things, natural sugar, thats unrefined or unprocessed is fine. But with all things, it should be eaten in moderation, a pot of honey and a spoon for any sugar cravings isn’t the way forward!

I honestly believe that my calmer state is due to reducing my carb and sugar intake, and i cant help but feel there are so many people out there who would benefit from this type of diet.

Maybe all those with ADHD would do better if they looked at their diet and stopped to think about how many highs and lows they were going through from all the hidden sugars in their food?

Maybe it would be an idea to put the same time and money into researching the benefits of healthy living as we do into medicinal cures for everything. Maybe the key to a lot of problems nowadays is down to diet, but sadly a lot of people don’t feel they have the time to adapt to these changes with their busy life schedules. Maybe one day the world will wake up and start looking for healthy alternatives to helping themselves rather than opting always for the nearest medicine cabinet.

What do you think?

I’ve got the Shrinks

Well, sort off…..maybe not the same sort of Shrinks the Twits suffered from, but my weights still coming down!

I had the absolute joy this week of pulling out a bag of clothes i have not worn in 5-6 years and trying them on.
I have always had a love for Monsoon dresses and in my ‘skinnier’ days owned a few beautiful summer dresses.
Much to my husbands frustration at times i’m sure, i kept hold of them, i wasn’t prepared to throw my dresses out, always living in hope that one day i may got back into them, i couldn’t give up hope!

20130519-102134.jpg (6 years ago at a family friends wedding)

Well, not only did i ‘try’ on my dresses but for the first time in 6 years i could do them up!!!!
Lets just say i’m very glad i decided to keep them!

The journey is not yet over, i still have a lot of work to do and i have to admit that i really should start looking into some exercise.

Although i have dropped a dress size, ( two in the case of the dresses, sadly, a way off dropping another jean size though!!) i still have some toning up to do and a little extra weight needs to be dropped from the tummy and hips.

I’m really not one for exercise, even though it is part of the whole lifestyle change I’m after, i just struggle to find the time and motivation to do any.

The gym bores me to tears, a place full of sweaty people who never crack a smile and look pained as they concentrate on their own workouts. Maybe its also the fact i really have no clue what to do and how to do it and the whole idea just bores me a little?

When it comes to exercise at home, again i don’t feel particularly inspired, being an at home mum, you think i have plenty of time to throw in a bit of exercise here and there, and i do i guess…. But its nice to get out of the house and do something for me, not just be stuck inside!
I think i am more suited to social exercise, so i need to spend a little time researching what is available and where! I’ll get there in the end i’m sure, and even one day, maybe stop all the excuses!

I have to say this quotation i found says it all really, no excuses!

Today has been a good but long day.

I have been glued to my laptop doing a million and one things this evening and i’m now finding my bed is screaming at me from the other room to get in and go to sleep!

But, because i don’t want to slack off another night after having my ‘break’ for a few days please let me share with you some inspirational quotes, cartoons and other general things i have found over the past few weeks to keep a smile on my face!

Tomorrow i shall promise to write something a little more interesting!

But for now, sit back and enjoy, maybe you can also relate to some of these?
