Spot the difference….

I realized the last progress report i did was in May, and although my goals have changed now to maintaining a healthier weight and a healthier lifestyle, i do think its worth sharing how fa i have come by doing these changes!

I have lost over 15kg since the start of the journey, and although my aim is now not to lose any more, i do want to maintain my figure and enjoy feeling better in myself and having more body confidence!

And in other news…..

I shall have to make today’s post brief!
I am off to Italy tomorrow morning and have once again felt I have neglected my blog for a few days!

Today I decided to do something daring, something I have wanted to do for a long time but never had the courage to do myself.

Dye my hair bright dark red!

Why not? New lifestyle, new body ( still in progress), new mental attitude…. New hair! It fits in so nicely!

So I braved the wind and rain and joined the scurry of people through town … With not much help from my iPhone GPS I may add! Apparently I did need to walk around the block ( and then some) in the torrential rain rather than just walk 10 meters to the left!

None the less I got there, with my 2 year old in tow, little damper than we had hoped but it was for a good cause!

I won’t babble on about the process of changing your hair colour from dark brown to red, but I have learnt it now involved lightening your current colour with bleach so to show the colour better! Not the best look!

Little madam was kept highly amused by the hairdressers, and was even given her own model to practice on while she waited patiently to be saved by her Aunty. Better than being bored to tears whilst waiting for goodness knows how long for mum to be finished!

The finished result if my hair was, well interesting! The beautiful dark deep burgundy colour I was dreaming of was non existent, instead I have been kindly given bright, manic ginger red hair!

For the moment i have decided to keep it for the weekend but to say I’m a little bit in shock would be about right!

Maybe I will get used to it, its
just one of those times in life where you expect one thing and receive another!

Anyways…… Here’s my ‘auburn’ do!

What a Boob!

I’m sorry if today’s posting only appeals to some of you, but I’m sure there are many ladies out there who share my frustration here! 🙂

No, I’m not talking about the burn your bra type feminism! I’m talking about what a change to a healthier diet and more exercise does to a woman’s figure!

It was only a few months ago I went out and bought myself a whole new set of bras. I hadn’t really considered the inevitable shape change that occurs with a healthy lifestyle change.

I was so busy concerned with trimming down my legs, removing the ‘love handles’ and flattening my belly that I had forgotten the toll exercise takes on the upper half of the body!

That’s right! I’m talking Boobs! ( now I’m sure I have the attention of a few male readers!).

I’m sorry to say that as much I’m enjoying having a healthier figure, diet and exercise really does nothing for that particular part of a women’s figure!

In fact it always seems to be the first place that the weight falls off!

So with a heavy heart and with great sorrow I’m saying good bye to my old bras and hello to as many ‘padded’ ones I can find! 🙂

I have to say that the one thing that has surprised the most about following this diet is the fact i feel so different.
Whether its confidence returning, my body appreciating a healthier diet or whatever, there is most definitely a change.

Now i’m no super woman/mum and i’m not stating here that I have discovered a love of housework or anything crazy ( id need a lot more than a new diet for that!), its just nice to feel different. Calmer.

Instead of having all the mad ups and down i used to suffer from, which i must admit was from my excessive chocolate binging….(i could easy get through a 200g bar of chocolate in one sitting, not counting all the rest of the crap i ate throughout the day) i just feel ‘normal’. My body was used to major sugar highs and lows. Sugar was my drug, and if you tried to take it away from me, well, you would at a minimum get the ‘death stare’ ….and if you managed to actually take it away, more fool you!!!! A sugar junkie!

I know i did a posting about the bad effects of artificial sweeteners in one of my previous blogs, and i stand by that whole heartily, but its important to look at the problem with refined sugar also.

Here are 16 side effects of having sugar!

Sugar obviously appears naturally in a lot of produce, fruit is high in sugar content. Its not about cutting down on those things, natural sugar, thats unrefined or unprocessed is fine. But with all things, it should be eaten in moderation, a pot of honey and a spoon for any sugar cravings isn’t the way forward!

I honestly believe that my calmer state is due to reducing my carb and sugar intake, and i cant help but feel there are so many people out there who would benefit from this type of diet.

Maybe all those with ADHD would do better if they looked at their diet and stopped to think about how many highs and lows they were going through from all the hidden sugars in their food?

Maybe it would be an idea to put the same time and money into researching the benefits of healthy living as we do into medicinal cures for everything. Maybe the key to a lot of problems nowadays is down to diet, but sadly a lot of people don’t feel they have the time to adapt to these changes with their busy life schedules. Maybe one day the world will wake up and start looking for healthy alternatives to helping themselves rather than opting always for the nearest medicine cabinet.

I’ve got the Shrinks

Well, sort off…..maybe not the same sort of Shrinks the Twits suffered from, but my weights still coming down!

I had the absolute joy this week of pulling out a bag of clothes i have not worn in 5-6 years and trying them on.
I have always had a love for Monsoon dresses and in my ‘skinnier’ days owned a few beautiful summer dresses.
Much to my husbands frustration at times i’m sure, i kept hold of them, i wasn’t prepared to throw my dresses out, always living in hope that one day i may got back into them, i couldn’t give up hope!

Well, not only did i ‘try’ on my dresses but for the first time in 6 years i could do them up!!!!
Lets just say i’m very glad i decided to keep them!

The journey is not yet over, i still have a lot of work to do and i have to admit that i really should start looking into some exercise.

Although i have dropped a dress size, ( two in the case of the dresses, sadly, a way off dropping another jean size though!!) i still have some toning up to do and a little extra weight needs to be dropped from the tummy and hips.

I’m really not one for exercise, even though it is part of the whole lifestyle change I’m after, i just struggle to find the time and motivation to do any.

The gym bores me to tears, a place full of sweaty people who never crack a smile and look pained as they concentrate on their own workouts. Maybe its also the fact i really have no clue what to do and how to do it and the whole idea just bores me a little?

When it comes to exercise at home, again i don’t feel particularly inspired, being an at home mum, you think i have plenty of time to throw in a bit of exercise here and there, and i do i guess…. But its nice to get out of the house and do something for me, not just be stuck inside!
I think i am more suited to social exercise, so i need to spend a little time researching what is available and where! I’ll get there in the end i’m sure, and even one day, maybe stop all the excuses!

I have to say this quotation i found says it all really, no excuses!

Clothing Dilemma!

As the seasons change and we enjoy the sunshine beating down upon us i am going through the small dilemma of needing new clothes but yet not sure i should get any as i’m trying to lose weight!

So what do you do when your wardrobe is full of nothing as you’ve managed to wear everything to death in last few years and now, for once, your actually going ahead with a plan to lose weight before the summer really kicks off!

I have already found that one of the larger belts i own is now too large for me and a few of my jeans aren’t so well fitting anymore. But living in Switzerland makes me a little less happy about rushing out to buy the next size down just yet when i know theres more weight to lose!

For those who don’t know much about Swiss pricing, they don’t really have a Primark or a Walmart equivalent here to just pick up a few cheap bits and bobs to see you through!

A few rules i need to set myself….

1. I will not buy stretchy pants, or drawstring or any other make do trouser items that will allow me just as easily to put weight back on as it is to tighten them as i get slimmer!

2. Get rid of my Fat clothes….do i need them any more, will keeping them just give me a get out clause for later.

3. Stop buying figure hiding tops, baggy, or loose fitting things that hide the extra lumps and bumps. The aim is to be losing that and again, the more you have these items available in your wardrobe the more likely you are to slip up!
